new /opt partition from / without resizing with parted
hello...
I have some ntfs partitions (hda1, 5,6,7) and then a small (I know I am guilt) hda3 (1.3 giaga) primary and / partition. ( and then the other ones, like swap, usr(reiserfs), home(reiserfs),var(ext2),tmp(ext2) and not used space)
What I need is to do , if possible:
1- Erase hda7 (win partition with 4.3 giga) and create a linux reiserfs partition. That is NO problem.
2- Transfer all my /opt from the / partition to this new one, so I'd have more space to isnstall my stuff, and of course update lilo and fstab.
--> How do I do this????
I know I can't just to erase the hda7 and resize hda3, like with 'gnu parted', because I'd need to maintain the start cylinder, and that is not possible , since hda7 is fisicaly before hda3...
So I think that I can just create a new one, and than transfer all the /opt... but I just NEVER did that before...
By the way, I am using a Slack 10.
Is there any good soul who could help me? :-)
btw: just asking... if I install a new second hd, create a big lvm2 and start moving everything, including boot, root, and all? but please, I need a realistic answer to the real problem, like I asked about the new partition,, and some suggestions and some light about this different option just if that isn't possible; what I suppose is easy, but complicated to me because I never did it before.
Thanks and bye....
