New motherboard and CPU?

Hi, I've been using Linux off and on over the last year and I recently fried either my mobo or the cpu trying to put them and my other hardware into a new case.

So I'm planning to get a Athlon XP 2500 Barton processor and the Asus A7N8X Deluxe motherboard. I'm confused about the whole nForce thing and if my hardware will work properly with it - because searching around left me a little confused and with a bad feeling about this board - although it seems nice for Windows. Here's my hardware that I want to run with Slack 9:

Asus A7N8X Deluxe mobo
Athlon XP 2500 Barton
Soundblaster Live!
ATI Radeon 8500LE
PCI Modem (56K)
Lite On CD-RW
Lite DVD-ROM
Western Digital 40 gig w/ 8mb cache (master)
Maxtor 40 gig (slave)
420 watt PSU

I've gotten all my hardware configured through Slackware before(except the WD HDD which I haven't tried yet) so I just want to know if I need to re-compile the kernel after a fresh install or install any drivers to get the motherboard working. I only use my machine for a little bit of gaming, some software development, and internet browsing through my ultra-slow modem. Thanks.
