New Dual Core Chips
 

Has anyone had experiences/got advice/got warnings etc about using the new-ish Intel Dual Core chips? I have worked with AMD (Athlon and Sempron) and Intel Pentium 3 and 4, and have had no probs, but before I go an buy a dual-core replacement for a development server that got toasted in a lightning strike on the weekend (yes, I HAVE surge protection, but when the building next door gets the zap, its asking a lot!), I'd like to know what I'm getting into...

I've had a search around, but not found anything too relevant. However, if I have missed the obvious, please feel free to flame me for stupidity, lack of observation, etc!

No personal experience, but I have a mate running Gentoo Linux on an Intel Dual Core laptop and it goes like a train. He's had no issues whatsoever.
If you've found nothing relevant, that's probably good news and means that no-one has hit major problems.

Is you relating it to a train a good/bad thing. It could be fast, and it could be noisy, as trains are both.lol

I have heard lots of good stuff about the core2duos. I would still stick to AMD(at the low end, their prices are good) but if you go high end, then core2duos are the way to go.

Linux has provided support for multi-processor systems longer than that other, somewhat popular, OS; I forget what it's called. Anyway, there shouldn't be any problems with a multi-core processor. Just remember to use a SMP kernel or compile a kernel with SMP support.
