New Drive issue
To all,
I filled up my initial 500Gb hard drive and know I need to clean it up(project for future date). I had a 1000GB drive available and grabbed it from The shelf. I plugged it into the open slot but hadvto take the SATA cable from my full drive as there was only one sata cable. I plugged it in And put an ubuntu 14.0 i believe and it looked like It would boot load and run. But it didnt it had a hard drive error not sure which error! How can i load centos or ubuntu on a never used drive? cajunchief |
If it's never been used, the chances are that it has no partitions or partition table as yet. You may have to create those using a suitable program such as cfdisk, parted or gparted. You might have one of those on your Ubuntu hard drive but since you say you can't use two hard drives at once, you will need to boot from a cd or usb.
It's quite possible that your Ubuntu installation disc will have suitable software on it. If not, I suggest that you burn a SystemRescue cd. SystemRescue has gparted and that is certainly the easiest program I know for this kind of job. Once you have created a DOS "label", which contains the partition table, you can create the partitions you want. Then install Ubuntu. |

Can you try again, write down the error message and share it here? |
