New computer and one kernel message

I have a new computer:
Gigabyte J3455N-D3H
8 GB RAM
250 GB SSD

During boot I see the following error message:

[ 0.554925] mce: CPU supports 7 MCE banks
[ 0.575931] mce: [Hardware Error]: Machine check events logged
[ 0.575935] mce: [Hardware Error]: CPU 0: Machine Check: 0 Bank 4: a600000000020408
[ 0.575946] mce: [Hardware Error]: TSC 0 ADDR fef135c0
[ 0.575954] mce: [Hardware Error]: PROCESSOR 0:506c9 TIME 1550005357 SOCKET 0 APIC 0 microcode 32

Is this a major problem?

If the computer seems to be working properly, probably not. During boot, the kernel probes for all kinds of stuff that may not be present in a particular machine.

I get similar not-found type messages frequently on boot.

You might take a look in the log files. If there's /var/log/boot, that would be a good starting point. You might also run dmesg and examine the dmesg output. You might have to run it as root.

I got this error message from dmesg.

The kernel tries to load the new microcode into the kernel and fails.

The computer runs aside from this error, normal.

Try the downloadable deb that you can click through to from this page:

mcelog does not show errors, when running.

But on boot up, it shows an error.

I would say it is not installed/configured properly.

Today I have contacted Gigabyte and they recommended to return the mainboard to them.
