New ATI Xorg Drivers On Slack 10.1

Hello Brains!

Recent linux crossover and have run into a problem (not the first time tho!)
I have bugged all the people in #linux on my irc server lately but they seem to get stumped when it comes to my ATI problem (as most if not all use nvidia for some reason hmmm). Anyway, after I screwed up one install and had to reconfig X i managed to correctly install the new xorg drivers from the ATI site *disclaimer: may not actually be installed properly*. Followed a guide, set up fglrxconfig and such and restarted x. No problems. Booted fine, res fine, refresh rate fine.

Direct Rendering: Yes... hah okay we will see .

GL screen savers? 2-3fps

Glxgears? 75fps (i really expected 2-3k+)

I am going to assume that I either missed something, or there is a common error or something going on? I have broken my slackware about 20times in the last 2 weeks since first installing (convert from mandrake). It is really amazing how much you just pickup after awhile (and then smash it again inadvertantly).

Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated. If you need to look at my xorg.conf just let me know and I can upload it.
Thanks in advance

Nobody? =(

How does your xorg.conf look? My glxinfo prints more or less the same output as yours. I get about 2300 fps. fgl_glxgears gives me about 440 fps. This is not as good as I expected, but still better than you seem to get.

If now I could only get that damned sleep mode to work...

sepia@sepz:~$ fgl_glxgears
FGLTexMgr: open of shared memory object failed (Function not implemented)
__FGLTexMgrCreateObject: __FGLTexMgrSHMmalloc failed!!!

UT OH ? =(
Drivers installed without a hitch, so it seemed?

I dont see ATI in xrog.conf now if only i knew what that meant =P
Thanks for the reply am really wanting to sort this garbage out

cheers

Try changing:
Code:

Option "UseInternalAGPGART"        "no"
to
Code:

Option "UseInternalAGPGART"        "yes"

sepz 03-11-2005 10:27 PM

Unfortunatly, I still get the same fps with glxgears and i still get

sepia@sepz:~$ fgl_glxgears
FGLTexMgr: open of shared memory object failed (Function not implemented)
__FGLTexMgrCreateObject: __FGLTexMgrSHMmalloc failed!!!

Hmmm? :/

rpz 03-12-2005 12:36 AM

From http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_ATI_Drivers:

Please Note: If you are unable to use any 3d applications and get this error instead:

FGLTexMgr: open of shared memory object failed (Function not implemented)
__FGLTexMgrCreateObject: __FGLTexMgrSHMmalloc failed!!!
fglX11AllocateManagedSurface: __FGLTexMgrCreateObject failed!!
FGLTexMgr: open of shared memory object failed (Function not implemented)
__FGLTexMgrCreateObject: __FGLTexMgrSHMmalloc failed!!!
fglX11AllocateManagedSurface: __FGLTexMgrCreateObject failed!!
FGLTexMgr: open of shared memory object failed (Function not implemented)
__FGLTexMgrCreateObject: __FGLTexMgrSHMmalloc failed!!!

Then you do not have tmpfs mounted on /dev/shm, which the driver requires. To mount this, add to following line to /etc/fstab (if it isn't there already):

File: /etc/fstab

tmpfs /dev/shm tmpfs defaults 0 0

Then just do a:

Code:

# mount /dev/shm

Thanks rpz

fgl_glxgears
412 frames in 5.0 seconds = 82.400 FPS
421 frames in 5.0 seconds = 84.200 FPS

glxgears
372 frames in 5.0 seconds = 74.400 FPS
417 frames in 5.0 seconds = 83.400 FPS
400 frames in 5.0 seconds = 80.000 FPS

fgl_glxgears works but doesnt seem to be the figures i want??
Really no idea what to do now but appreciate the help

sepz 03-12-2005 01:24 PM

Heh well I decided to upgrade to 2.6.11.2 (from 2.4.29) thinking that this will most likely help.
However... after i rpm2tgz and installpkg i went to sh make.sh and I got this

http://users.on.net/~sepz/makesh

????????????????

Why cant things just work

/me cry

Anyone have ANY idea what caused this?

assuming new VMA API since we do have kernel 2.6.x...

that maybe?

Off the top of my head, no, but I did read why somewhere over on the Linux ATi drivers forum at Rage3D

You need a patch to use the ATi drivers with a kernel >= 2.6.11. Either patch the drivers, or stick to 2.6.10
