Network printing with the Zebra LP2844 (lpr)

After having no luck with either the Zebra manuals or Zebra's "technical support" on the issue, I turn to LinuxQuestions!

I am currently using the Zebra LP2844 printer as a network printer (with the end goal to use it to print shipping address labels). I believe I have everything set up correctly on my end, or at least to specifications, but I am unable to get the printer to print and was wondering if anyone else had a similar experience.

I've tried opening an lp and lpr connection to it (using the host flag) either followed by a filename or by input on STDIN, but no matter how I format my file/input, the following occurs: the printer job log (visible via telnet or via a web interface) reports that the job was successful (gives the origin IP, port, and date/time of the job), but nothing comes out of the printer, nor does it engage the print head (ie it's not a paper jam on this simple device).

I've tried formatting an input file with the ZPL (zebra printing language) code (^XA | ^FO10,10 | ^FD | (message) | ^FS | ^XZ) to no avail, and even tired opening a socket connection to it via perl (I can post that code if need be).

In short, my print jobs are "accepted" and the machine reports that they are "completed" but there's no printing going on.

Thanks in advance!

I seem to remeber that this priunter does not speak ZPL or ZPL II, but something else as its a "Eltron" printer and not a real Zebra.

Im not aware of any open source implementations for it yet.
