Network card upgrade help

I have a RedHat 6.1 computer that I need to install a new network card in. It currently has a very old 3Com card and I have a LinkSys EtherFast 10/100 card that I'd like to use. I have tried just physically swapping the cards but when I boot up it says that eth0 fails. I do think this is purely a hardware issue since our network is so simple (only two or three other components).

In case this information helps:

RedHat 6.1, Kernel 2.2.12-20
LinkSys EtherFast 10/100 LNE100TX = v. 5.0

Good greif - I take it there is a compelling reason for keeping such an old distro ... in general, modern hardware cannot be expected to work.

With RH - you will have to reconfigure eth0 after swapping the cards over.
This is normally a bit of a pain with older RHs, basically you have to remove the entire old configuration and start a new one. Just editing the old one dosn't seem to do the trick.
