Unhappy network card not working


Hello everybody,

I have a machine running mdk9.0 and i cant get the network card to work the problem is very strange indeed. first of all the driver listed is correct 8139too and it loads fine but for some reason i cant ping pass the card or ping it from the network.

the card is an on-board RTL8100B if i use the boot disks for either mdk 9.0, 9.1 or even 8.2 go to rescue mode and type drvinst it loads the 8139too driver.

the card works fine in red hat 9.0 but due to application requirements i need to run mdk 9.0

can any body give me any insite into what is happening

what does the command ifconfig tell you when you run it?

if you see your selected ip in there then it might be that mandrake has installed a firewall for you and with that turned off ping.

Hi Muflon,

Ifconfig is fine this is the weird thing the install is from an image that works fine on other hardware but not on this hardware no firewall is installed it almost seems as though there might an issue with the mother board i tried putting a card into a pci slot and that does not work either. but in saying that i use a firewire card that does work, this is very strange.

my ifconfig looks like this:

well.. the fact that you are getting zero packets on your eth0 is a eyecatcher. Have you tried it with another switch (I know netgear aint too happy about other hardware than netgears own. major compability issues) or is it the TP cable that is broken?

imgoing to compile the rtl8139 source and see if that works maybe not sure what else to except not buy that mother board again it seems that alot of people have trouble getting this particular card to work unde linux.

if i get it working i will post how to do it here
