Netgear ma111 on suse 9.1
I'm a total newb and i've read some tutorials and threads about how to install the ma111 netgear wireless card but all of them require that you have somethings already setup which i don't and don't know how to setup i have no previous knowledge of linux and only know a few basic things i've typed in these commands in the terminal and got this
Code:
zerogood@linux:~> /sbin/lspci |
Muwahahahah... usb wireless device. Your are insane ;)
Um, try installing ndiswrapper. Suse comes with it. Put all the drivers and stuff for windows in a folder in your home folder.. then try... ndiswrapper -i (path to driver)yourdriver.inf Then... ndiswrapper -l That's an L If it pops up and says (yourcard)... "Present" It means the driver will work, if not, ignore the rest of this... Proviced you have a driver that says its working, or the power light came up and stuff when you loaded that. Go into yast, network devices. Delete eth0 or whatever your landline connection is. Then, make a new configuration, for device "Other" meaning you'll do it manually. Where it says "Driver" or "Driver Module" type ndiswrapper. And it'll auto-load the wireless card upon boot as long as you remember to plug the thing in! Then click through all the menu's and set up the ESSID and security key and anything else you need. |
where exactly is the ndiswrapper at and how do i install it? and what driver?
also your last paragraph says go into yast and then network devices i skipped the middle part to see if even the network devices thing was in yast but its not i can't find it there must be something else i go to in yast to get to network devices. |
/me loads yast, looks around in it for a moment...
Lets see. The very first thing that pops up when you run yast is is a picture of the suse box with "INSTALL AND REMOVE SOFTWARE" So finding how to install ndiswrapper really shouldnt be much of a mystery... And the words "Network Devices" are written about 3 inches to the left and 1 inch down on the part that lets you choose what part of yast you want to use... |
my friend told me that suse 9.1 comes with drivers so i was wondering where would i go to configure it and where could i go to scan for wireless networks?

does anyone have suse 9.1 and the netgear ma111 working, ive currently ordered suse 9.1 personal so i will be a complete newbie
will i have to go out and buy a new wireless network card or does it actually work? if not does anyone know of a wireless usb device that work with suse 9.1 without having to do anything drastic, like it will just install or something |
You ordered 9.1.... personal... in February 2005, 4 months after 9.2 came out?
