Netgear MA111 802.11b USB adapter failed to initialize on startup (RHL9)

I recently purchased a Netgear MA111 USB wireless network adapter and downloaded the linux-wlan RPMs that corresponded to my kernel version (2.4.20-6) and adapter, which has a Prism2 chipset. However, even if it is plugged in, when RH starts up, it says that it failed to initialized because it is not present. I checked wlan.conf and all the settings are correct. Any ideas? I'm kind of a Linux so I would appreciate any help.
