Netgear FA511- compile probs
Hello all. I am not new to Unix/Linux, but I have been out of it for about a year and a half and am rusty in some areas! I am running Linux Red Hat, by the way.
I'm having compile problems for my Netgear driver that I am not seeing addressed here.
Per the instructions on the forum here is some info that it said to include:
/sbin/lspci output:
[root@localhost /sbin]# lspci
00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation 440BX/ZX - 82443BX/ZX Host bridge (rev 03)
00:01.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 440BX/ZX - 82443BX/ZX AGP bridge (rev 03)
00:03.0 Multimedia video controller: M-Pact, Inc.: Unknown device 0020 (rev 01)
00:04.0 CardBus bridge: Texas Instruments PCI1220 (rev 02)
00:04.1 CardBus bridge: Texas Instruments PCI1220 (rev 02)
00:07.0 Bridge: Intel Corporation 82371AB PIIX4 ISA (rev 02)
00:07.1 IDE interface: Intel Corporation 82371AB PIIX4 IDE (rev 01)
00:07.2 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82371AB PIIX4 USB (rev 01)
00:07.3 Bridge: Intel Corporation 82371AB PIIX4 ACPI (rev 02)
00:08.0 Multimedia audio controller: ESS Technology ES1968 Maestro 2
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc 3D Rage LT Pro AGP-133 (
rev dc)
uname -r output:
2.4.2-2
When I try to compile the files in the linux directory from the CD, it tells me that there is 'nothing to be done' to the file.
When I opened the tar file and tried to make config as the howto file showed me, I get the error "Linux source tree /usr/src/linux is incomplete or missing!"
Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

Where did you get the module source?
Does it say do a ./configure, make and then make install? Where does it give the problem?
What version is this Redhat 6,7,8,9?
If it was me and you had no data you needed to keep then install a newer distro. If wishing to stay with Redhat type then I would go with FC3 (Fedora Core 3) possiable FC4.

Thanks for the reply, Brian. I am using version 7.1 and I was hoping I would get by with it for the time being, but obviously that isn't going to happen. I am downloading the SUSE version now and will just go that route to make things easier.

Thats would be the best option. You will be in the 2.6 kernel and more current apps. Lets us know if all goes well.
