Need video card that works with Ubuntu 10:10

Since I'm having such a hard time getting drivers for my VIA/s3g unichrome pro igp k8m800 built in video card. I was thinking about getting the least expensive video card possible that will work with Ubuntu 10:10 in my Emachine T3104. I don't need any more card then the one that is built into this motherboard. So cheap is the word.

Hello,

Have a look at the HCL here at LinuxQuestions.

Kind regards,

Eric

You can get some old crap still secondhand - S3 cards, although beware of old SiS 6326 cards, or something like my old nvidia MX-440 is also out there in numbers. Not a bad card, either, for cheap crap; it does 2200 fps in glxgears here w/64MB ram, agp bus.

Why not run vesa mode?

Is there linux drivers for that nvidia MX-440 for ubuntu10.10. does nvidia supply drivers still for that card in my ubuntu 10.10?

You've seen them on ebay? Nvidia use a proprietary driver for everything they did while they were still in short pants, and it's version 96.43.something. Use that.

Almost every card made since 2000 supports a basic but usable vesa mode.
