Need To Repartition hard drive in ubuntu


I Am needing to repartition my hard drive as my root drive is at 98% capacity can someone please assist me, i am running Ubuntu 6.06 and if possible I need to keep my current ubuntu installation

OK-rule one-back up. Two, do you have a copy of GParted? Its a partition editor-graphical. It doesn't install anything, its a live CD. Just boot it, a window will come up and you can resize or delete partitions. Don't get fancy though-just do what you have to as you don't want to screw up your installation. I have done this before and it didn't harm anything.
