Need to crash X server (Ubuntu)

Hello. I need to install new drivers on my graphic card (Sis Mirage 1 - 662 (integrated)). But my Terminal reports this:

_XSERVTransSocketUNIXCreateListener: ...SocketCreateListener() failed
_XSERVTransMakeAllCOTSServerListeners: server already running

Fatal server error:
Cannot establish any listening sockets - Make sure an X server isn't already running
So I guess that I should somehow stop the X server. Can someone please tell me, how to do that on Ubuntu?

Depending on the DM you use it's either
sudo /etc/init.d/kdm stop
sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop

I am continuing through installation, but now my terminal writes:
"You must specify a keyboard in XF86Config"
And installation script stops... please help me to install these drivers...
