Need to change my "plus/equals" button at top of keyboard to some other button? How?

I've been trying to resurrect and old 2013 laptop. Everything is going great (I'm on it now) but there are 2 keys that are broken.... the ESC and the Plus/Equals button on the top of the keyboard (...9,0, -, Plus/Equals, Backspace). As it is a laptop there is not a numpad or anything.

Anyway, I have found code to swap the ESC with my CapsLock... setxkbmap -option caps:swapescape, but I am unsure on doing something custom for the Plus/Equals.

I'm left handed so thought it might be ok to map the Plus/Equals to the RIGHT CONTROL or RIGHT ALT... but I do can not seem to get that to work.

Also, is there any other key you would recommend swapping?

Also.... Xev can find the keycode of the ALT or Control... but as I can not press the Plus/Equals button.. I can not find the code for it.

I was able to get it working by mapping the thing twice...

Quote:
xmodmap -e "keycode 105 = plus"
xmodmap -e "keycode 108 = equal"
Is there a way to map it so it is on one key and you use shift like the original key?

But it seems that it is doing ctrl AND plus... as if I press it in firefox it zooms the window?

You should first
Code:
xmodmap -e 'remove Control = Control_R'

Code:
xmodmap -e 'keysym Control_R = equal plus'
