  • changes in libraries can be left unreverted to originals
  • kernel command line options can be left behind in /etc/default/grub and in /boot/grub/grub.cfg
  • files or modifications in /etc/modprobe.d/* can be left behind
  • unneeded FOSS packages that support proprietary NVidia drivers may be left behind
IOW, a software issue may exist that is not directly related to any driver.

As I continue the MB Bios attempt, here is the MB Bios manual, very straight forward but all changes have not solved anything. Seems the MB though has many options but can't find the correct one?

Online BIOS manuals are notoriously different from BIOS versions actually installed. BIOS changes are made far more often than online BIOS manual revisions.

Many socket AM2 mainboards and socket AM2+ mainboards meet listed recommendations. Three examples (all socket AM2+) running with Radeon HD graphics cards:
  • Asus M2N-E
  • Gigabyte GA-MA69G-S3H
  • Gigabyte GA-MA770-UD3
Socket AM2+ has one great advantage against socket AM2: A Phenom X4 or Phenom II X4 (in some cases a Phenom II X6 too) can be used instead of an Athlon64 X2.

I'm sure that's quite true. In this case, the link to my MB Bios manual is exactly what I see in my Bios.

Solved--It really came down to either being a rare issue with no solution or a cable/DMS59-to-VGA adapter failure. I had tried a known good monitor so I eliminated the cable issue. The adapter was a simple $6 1 piece molded plastic connector and my resolution was good so I thought it rare that basic RGB would be worse than old on board graphics. The HD 4359(4330) that I ordered new in box had a Y-cable that I thought was only for using 2 monitors. I only had 1 so didn't try it. As I was researching the DMS59 connector on the video card, I saw this on Wikipedia "A Y-style breakout cable is needed for the transition from the DMS-59 output (digital + analogue) to DVI (digital) or VGA (analogue), and different types of adapter cables exist". I installed the Y-cable and now I have outstanding graphics(relatively speaking). The card works great, the video is 10X better than the on board, the shading is excellent, RGB is perfect and a wide variety of new colors. It makes this 17 year old machine a daily driver now on Linux and videos are great. Don't know the difference between the adapter I had and the Y-cable, but it was the solution and now works perfect. Many thanks to all for their help!
