Evidently I should have expanded. I used a budget SSD and only benchmarked boot time, because 98% of all my data is kept on a SAN. The only advantage I saw in the SSD was a +2 sec boot time which wasn't worth the extra money. On top of that it was installed on a M$ box that needed weekly defrags. My opinion is obviously skewed, since I have no need for double the write speed.

You should get a better understanding of how SSDs work. Defragmenting a SSD is totally unnecessary.

hybrids?

Do the hybrid drives work with linux?

I have not been able to determine if the OS determines which files will get stored in the SSD portion of the drive or if the drive's firmware does this. I have seen some reports of large speed boosts from the hybrid drives, but they have all referred to Windows.
