need help with usb mouse

I am a noob, so please explain as detailed as possible.
I have a problem with my usb mouse (microsoft usb intellimouse). I use gentoo 1.4 with kernel 2.4.20. I have used the users guide from the gentoo homepage to load the needed modules, but it doesn't work. My kern.log tells me the following every time I plug the mouse in:
hub.c: new USB device 00:07.2-2, assigned address 2
usb.c: USB device2 (vend/prod 0x45e/0x29) is not claimed by any active driver.

Please help me to load the needed module or driver or ....
