ahhhh
Ok, so the USB drive has an NTFS filesystem. And, your kernel doesnt have builtin support for NTFS filesystems. Try this, from the terminal, as the 'root' user: Code:
modprobe ntfs If 'modprobe' DOES return an error than the NTFS module is not available. If this is the case then you will need to recompile your kernel. How-To's available on the internet, or poke around these forums for "Compiling a new kernel". Quote:
If you wanted to manually mount the sda1 partition you would type the following, as 'root' user: Code:
mount /dev/sda1 /SomeMountPoint Scott |
I'm so confused. Can I get like step by step instructions and could someone explain what all this stuff means..Please Thanks Im sorry for the trouble
|
He's saying that while your in the terminal try typing
modprobe ntfs if you get an error then the NTFS Module is not available, this means that your system does NOT support NTFS systems right now, you have to add the support for it. (Compile the kernel) http://www.isi.edu/~weiye/howto/kernel.html <- shows you how to compile kernel (I'd back up everything incase something goes wrong, and sorry I can't help you with compling kernel as I don't know how..) |
USB drive with NTFS system...
What is on your external USB drive? Is it a new drive, formatted for use with Microsoft windows? If there is no data on the drive (no programs or files), you may want to change the file system to "fat32". Do you have a computer with MS Windows and Linux on it - a dual boot system? Since you cannot mount the device under Linux, you may have to change the file system using MS Windows. Answer my questions and we'll go from there.
