When I turn on the power, it would make 1 long beep. Pause. Then repeat.
The monitor doesn't even respond when I turn on my computer.
I cannot get any info on the BIOS as I was told the beeps will differ depending on the maker of my MOBO. But I couldn't get any info when I typed in my MOBO's maker and BIOS maker.
google doesn't point at any docs about this, so you need to eliminate the usual suspects. remove the RAM... do the beeps change? remove the CPU... do the beeps change? change the RAM .... etc..
Sounds like a video card issue. If your card is AGP try taking it out. clean if off and re-seat it... If you have a PCI or ISA video card try moving it to another available slot.
If it continues, try taking out un-needed cards. NIC, SOUND, MODEM, Etc... so you only have Video left...
BIOS detects that the CPU is overheating it may play a high pitched repeating beep while the computer is running.
Code:
BEEP CODE MEANING POSSIBLE CAUSE
1 Long, 2 Short Video adapter failure Bad video adapter
Repeating (Endless loop) Memory error Bad memory or bad connection
1 Long, 3 Short Video adapter failure Bad video adapter or memory
High freq. beeps (while running) CPU is overheating CPU fan failure
Repeating High, Low beeps CPU failure Bad processor
Based on what you've described I'd agree with kencaz that there's a good chance it's a video issue considering that the monitor doesn't respond. Is your monitor cable seated correctly, and is the video card seated correctly? Also, do you have a mouse and keyboard attached? -- J.W.
hmmm, When did all this start happening. Is this a new MB. Has it worked before then stopped? Does the hard drive seem to be spinning up and loading anything? If not it may be the MB or maybe a power supply problem.
See if you can verify the monitor is working properly and if you can try the MB on another monitor... Could be maybe you knocked of a jumper and disabled the on-board-video!?
At least you found the mem problem though... Just trial and error from here...
Is your drive jumpered correctly? Is an operating system installed on the hard drive or is it brand new and therefore empty? (No OS = no boot) If an OS is not installed, do you have a bootable floppy or a bootable CD in the drive, and is your BIOS boot sequence set up to go to them before the hard drive? Just a few guesses. Good luck. -- J.W.
If indeed I did accidently knock off the jumpers. Where is this thing so I can fix it? I don't have a clue where is what. I just know how to attach the obvious pieces such as RAM, CPU, IDE, etc.
The HD is empty. But I have a Knoppix in the CD-ROM. I was hoping it would boot from it.
The motherboard is new. This is my first time trying to operate this motherboard.
The motherboard manual should have a description of each jumper and its location.
Have you verified the CPU is installed correctly?
Have you verified the video cables are connected correctly?
Is this a known good working video card?
All of the other cables connected correctly?
What do you mean by installed the CPU correctly? I mounted it correctly if you that is what you mean. There is only one way to put a CPU into the MOBO.
Again, I don't have a video card. So no video cables.

Check all the jumper settings... Video enable/disable, CPU Voltage/Speed, Correct RAM BANKS enabled, Does the RAM need to be installed in pairs... if so did you?
I have the manual with me. And I cannot find the jumpers for Video enable/disable. Cannot find CPU voltage/speed. Cannot find RAM banks enable/disable.
The only jumpers are for JP1 CMOS, JP3 BIOS flash protect, JP8 & JP9 CPU freq.
No, I don't know if RAMs need to be in pairs or not. How do I check?
