need help restoring an ipod

hello all,

i think i've totally hosed my ipod (and i wasn't smart enough to make a backup of my boot sector...doh). even the apple ipod restore utility is no help. i've followed all of the guides here (http://ipodlinux.org/Troubleshooting), but nothing helps. could a kind soul please provide their boot sector for a working 4G ipod?

please provide the output of:
Code:
# dd if=/dev/sda bs=512 count=1 | hd
also, i am interested in the output of:
Code:
# sfdisk -l /dev/sda
thank you so much. any assistance is greatly appreciated.

mike

Yeah, the iPod OS is the intellectual property of Apple and sharing it is illegal. It's very simple to restore from Win or OS X and once you've done that, make sure you make your own backup

Push come to shove there is a way, you can download the Mac restore util, extract the DMZ file and somewhere in there is the boot partition. I think there is a tutorial in the Gentoo wiki but I'm late for work so you'll have to look yourself

like i said the apple ipod restore utility on windows doesn't work (because it can't detect the ipod). i followed the gentoo doc to restore the firmware (http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Update_iPod_Firmware).

thanks

i think that they have a lot of posts in the forms at ipodlinux.org so just go there and search for your problem

P.S. it might be more crowded than you think so you are more likely to get an answer on their site because they are the people doing the ipodlinux thing this is more for distros

and also did you try to put it into disk mode (holding down menu and select till reboot then hit select and play/pause
