Cool Need employees to fill out forms on our intranet. Then I want to print them at end of day.

What kind of challenges will I face doing this?

I've already got the www side of things sorted out.

But now I need to figure out how to get these things printed. Ideally I'd like our office server to send the prints to one of our office printers.

I presume I'll be able to generate a PDF and then print it from the command line?

Is there any specific printer you guys would recommend? Black and white is fine. Cheap ink/toner preferred, double sided printing would also be a bonus. And of course, the printer needs to be networkable.

Any tips? Super duper appreciated.

Cheers.

So, you're just looking for printer purchase advice? Talk about a misleading title.

I'm not much good with printers, but most of them are network-capable nowadays, usually through WiFi. Even the cheap ones.

General recommend is to spend more on the printer, and subsequently (hopefully) less on the ink.

I use Brother laser printers. The cheapest is usually USB only without built-in status display so I prefer a better model. HP's while not the cheapest do probably have the best support. Look at printers that comply with IPP everywhere and don't need an installed linux driver.

If your not doing anything with the actual filled in information on the server then it's just the client printing the web page. In that case you could create a PDF fillable form and then have the employee click a link to display it in the browser to fill it out and print.

Otherwise you need to use something like php to process the data from the html form, create a dynamic page for the client to print or create something on the server and print from there.

Form might be printable as it is. Generating a pdf seems to be twice the work.

I have found HP's support of printing on Linux to be excellent.

You can check their list of supported printers at the HPLIP website.
