the other day i was struggling to make my Creative Labs ViBRA 16C ISA sound card work with Slack because there was no native driver with the Slackware 3.1 distro I have. I even looked on the other 3 enclosed ISO CD's but couldn't find the driver. I checked
http://opensource.creative.com and saw a list which didn't include my card. But then I searched some more using
http://www.google.com and found another document that stated that my audio card IS supported by Creative Labs using a driver that they have. I searched all over the Creative site but couldn't find the driver in question so I went to
http://www.alsa-project.org and they too said the card is supported. The problem I have with that is of course the version of Slackware. Alsa on Slackware 3.1?
Why 3.1 Slack you ask? Because it's a REALLY old system as in Pentium 166 MMX! It's a computer. It was free and it recognizes large hard drives because it's SCSI. I'm going to put all my mp3's on there if I can get the mp3 player to work with Slackware 3.1
Again, WHY this box when boxes are so cheap these days? I can't afford to buy any new box and well, the fan on the 166 is so quiet I can't even tell the computer is on when it is. Perfect for a mp3 jukebox!
So back to the driver issue. Anyone know where I get this illusive ViBRA 16C audio driver for Linux kernel 2.0.0 or 2.0.40???
