need Canon i850 driver

Has anyone ever seen a Linux driver for the Canon i850 printer? The closest driver Linux can find for it is from the Canon BJC series, and that produces distorted printing.

I don't suppose it would make things any easier if I went back to a parallel printer connection, would it? I've been told that USB support in Linux is weak.

Yes, use Google.

Hint: there seems to be an answer @ ubuntu.

Please tell us what you found, how you found it, & how well it did or didn't work.

I'm almost positive I used this one for Fedora Core 3 http://www.linuxprinting.org/canon-faq.html#s_10

I just switched to FC4 and haven't had a chance to configure it yet, though, so I can't be sure.
I'll post again in a day or two to confirm if this is the one or not. If it is, it's worked quite well for me for printing text and graphics, although the colors are a little dark. The driver and front/backend were already installed in FC3, so I only had to configure it. I hope this works for you!

Thumbs up

Yes, the BJC 7004 is the driver I used and am using. It seems to work even better in FC4, but that might just be updated drivers. It was super easy to set up - I just went to System Settings > Printing, selected new queue with the printer ON, and followed the screens. Up to now, I haven't been able to use more advanced features like the draft (economy) ink setting, or high res for photos; let me know if you can figure out how. Hope this helps!

P.S. I just saw your question about USB; I have always had my i850 connected through USB, and I have never experienced any problems with it. If you have trouble though, it can't hurt to try the parallel connection instead.
