need a good intel core 2 board that works with linix

Looking to build a new 64 bit system and 1st planed a AMD box, but now the benchmarks are making me look at intel core 2s. Ether way want to keep it under $600

AMD Route.
Some AM2 board with at least 2 PATA along side SATA + 10/100/1000 Ethernet with Integrated Video (I can find these okay)
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ Dual Core (225 on pricegrabber)
1 gig of Ram
Maxtor 500 gig drive (need the space)
new power supply
Keep my case and case fans
Keep My IDE dvd burner and 160 gig drive for backup

Right now I have a AMD Athlon XP 2000+ System with 768mb ram, I need something with more get up and SATA.

Pretty much I can't find a board that will do the intel core 2 with 2 IDEs and on board video, that is documented to work with linux. I plan on running Ubuntu, Gentoo and maybe try Debian again with it. Looking for board suggestions for the Core 2 or AMD 64 x2 for that matter.

I just bought this one.

I have not set up the dual boot yet, but I have run Mepis, Ubuntu, and LinuxMint in VirtualBox, as well as booted the LiveCds for all three. There are a few downsides, such as the 533 RAM (even though it can use 667 and 800), the PD 830 house furnace, and 8x PCIe even if only using 1 video card. Then, there are some misc pieces which become essential like (2) 120mm case fans and a graphics card. I moved an old PCI Geforce fx5200 ($35) into it, and I get acceptable performance.

It fit well into my budget, it is dual core, it has a great upgrade path, and it is a complete PC, minus the graphics card.

old and new

I need a new render box for Bryce 6.0 and Adobe phototshop. I also wanted a board that would allow overclocking as well as support old and new hardware. This board allows DDR, DDRII, AGP, PCI-E, and all current CPUs:

D 805 2.66 @ 3.0 Gigahertz 75$ OEM 91$ Boxed
