Exclamation NEC Versa P520 keyboard problems!!!

Hi there, guys!

I am currently using SuSE Linux 9.3 Pro on my NEC Versa P520 keyboard. Unfortunately, there is just one key that is not mapped correctly on my keyboard, which is next to the left shift and before "z". When I press the button I get < or with shift >, but what it should be is \ and |... I don't know how to map these keys correctly, so I can use the console with it and especially Kile for writing LaTeX documents... I believe it is keycode 86...

Thanks in advance!

I have only fixed it 'temporarily', i.e. I have written a script that I can run by clicking on it in order to fix my key for the session I am in. So, if I know I need my backslash at the time I am at my PC, I can click it and when I know I don't need it, then I don't have to click. If you want the script, I will post it here with some infos...

Yes, I would appreciate this. I'd like to solve it 'permanently';
if I do, I will post it here.

showkeys didn't work - gave wrong keycode, so use: xev to get the correct
keycode (mine was 94, not 86).
Then: xmodmap -pke > xmodmap.conf.
Edit xmodmap.conf - go to keycode and put, e.g. keycode 94 = backslash bar
Put a command like xmodmap xmodmap.conf into .bashrc (or whereever you want
it to start). Good luck :P

Actually, I think you're just using the wrong keycode.

Run xev and have a look.

xmodmap -e "keycode 94 = backslash bar"

in .bashrc does the trick, provided you have the right keycode.

Well, actually, it ain't much different from using xmodmap in the console with the right keycode...
