NEC MultiSync FE2111SB
 

I bought a used NEC MultiSync FE2111SB from overstock.com. I've been happy with it, except for one annoyance. When I got the item - most of the monitor buttons didn't work at all, so I have to rely on NEC's special software for this monitor.

When I use my Linux machine, (via KVM switch), it works fine and I can get the resolution I want, but the screen is skewed off to the side a bit - it's just off-center really. Having NEC's software would fix this and enable a few other features.

Anyway, I've checked all around and posting here is kinda my last resort - I'm wondering if anyone has come across Linux software for this monitor, so I can adjust my screen settings. I'm using Fedora Core5 and I can do just about everything except scoot the screen over.

You could try using sax2. It is a command line utility for tuning the monitor to match the graphic card and the X software. My Suse system has sax2 located in

/usr/X11R6/bin/sax2

The X software must not be running when you invoke sax2. It is used on the console in text mode. This is normally considered to be run level 3. Run levels 1 or 2 would also be fine to use for this. Be sure to save your settings once you have the screen image centered and filling the screen correctly. Although you should be able to run startx immediately I would shut down the machine, power off, wait, and power on again. I always do this when I am changing hardware settings. It prevents any old values from remaining in the hardware being tuned.

Ah - thanks, I'll try that out.

Only thing is, as I recall, at the command line things are lined up correctly. I think it's only in Xwindows that the screen is off-center.
