mythtv ATI AIW 128 (GATOS)

Hello all,

I have been fighting for 2 days now with my ATI All-In-Wonder 128 in Redhat 9. I have tried gatos serveral times to no avail. Part of the problem is a comprehensive How-To or intructions that are understandable for a non full time geek. I dont know about the rest of you, but I just couldn't get gatos to work.

I realize that WinTV cards are much better supported in linux by bttv. I can't seem to find some good specs on them though.

- If I do a WinTV card, how do I handle the TV-OUT function I need for buidling my own DVR (MythTV)? Do the WinTV cards do TV-OUT and is this configurable in linux?

- Is there a way to use my ATI AIW 128 card?

- Do I need to also have a video card that does TV-OUT in addition to my TV-TUNER needs?

If anyone has the time and knowledge to explain this to me, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks for any input

mwm

ATI TV Card

Hello,
I too just installed RH9 and have an AIT Rage 128 TV Card installed. I am looking for software that I can watch cable tv in RH9. I will post here if I find anything. I would appreciate it if you could do the same.
Thanks,
Dan:)

Haugpauge cards and many others do not output to the TV. They are just video capture cards. Your sound card captures the audio. They consume a lot resources and they drop frames. I suggest using AGP video capture cards. Some Nvidia cards from Gainward has a video capture chip that Video 4 Linux supports. I don't know if it will work or not.

The tv out on all video cards are not very good. I suggest using a vga to tv converter from Focus Enhancements. You don't need any software for it to work. Also some of their better models can handle resolutions up to 1600 X 1200.

For tv watching, have you try other software. Each software has their own way of accessing Video 4 Linux commands. Theres tvtime, mplayer, kwintv, zapping, Xawtv, gnometv, and many others.

Have a look at http://linuxshop.ru/linuxbegin/win-l...en/table.shtml

If you want us to help you on setting up your video capture card, you need to give more information. I think you need to install the km software for video capture support.
