Mythtv and PVR-350 Some advice please!

Greetings,

Long story short, Ive got a pvr-350 in my mandriva 10.1 machine.
The video works all the time, the sound works some of the time.
IOW, the sound doesnt' work all the time. I can't seem to find a good solution.
I've tried a line between my pvr sound output, and my sound card in, but I get no results.
I realize one would need more information to deal with this, so my first question is what information would you need to give me advice. Isthere a way to log what is happening so that I can report it here?
Thanks!
ken

The first thing I'd do is search the MythTV and IVTV mailing list archives to see if others have experienced (and hopefully solved!) your problem.

I seem to remember reading about intermittant sound issues, but I didn't read those threads because I haven't had any sound problems personally (using a PVR-150).

Also check out the IVTV troubleshooting guide:

In my case with mythtv (are you using myth?), if artsd was started it prevents sound, which could be intermittent. If its not working try killing artsd and restart mythtv. Anything on the desktop that causes as sound, like beeping from the console starts artsd back up again. That's just my experiences with the intermittent sound problem.

Try half-splitting the problem. Isolate it to either a card problem or MythTv problem. Do a "cat /dev/video0 >test.mpg" and then ctrl-C the cat after a few seconds. Play test.mpg with mplayer and see if you have sound. If you do then the problem is with MythTv and not the card/driver.

Thanks for the help!
I'll try killing artsd, as the problem seems to appear like mythtv is "fighting" over the sound. It "pops" on or off, and there are later "pops" as if its trying to connect with sound server, alsa.
I'll report the results.....
