mysterious crashes in computer

I had earlier posted a thread saying that there were bad sectors in the HD, and that ir was segfaulting for certain programs, with bad sectors being detected by e2fsck.

I have now purchased a new HD and installed Slackware using another system because my computer is still refusing to install the OS, among other things which I shall describe.

The problems, from what I can make out are the following.

1) Segmentatio faults on running certain programs -most notably mozilla. The errors are usually accompanied by a malloc message.

2) Clock problems. The clock gets reset to some date in 2000 and has to be reset. This does not happen all the time. There is this BIOS error that comes once in a while-for some reason the boot device gets reset. I think the clock 'loses' its memory when this happens. Also, as a result of this, it fscks (with some insane comment like it hasnt been checked for something like 100 years (but that was probably just one of those extras that they decided to put in:))

3) On fscking, it discovers a duplicate or bad block being used somewhere. It will then fail to fsck as a result of some error and suggest e2fsck -v -y, and this will complete the job.

It appears that there is a problem with the motherboard or may be the battery. Can someone help here? The computer is almost, but not quite unusable.
