I still think I should stick with IDE in the future, because evidently, SATA isn't old enough to "just work" like IDE does. I never needed a driver for an IDE hard drive.

By the way, I just updated the pciids. Evidently my SATA controller and/or driver is a problem for it, because it's now the only thing in the list that still is an "unknown device."

If you go into the BIOS and set the SATA controller mode to AHCI, it will very likely work. If you can't then you'll have to install the right SATA driver like you said before.
