Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Unhappy my network card works well in mandriva 2006 but not in windows 2000 server

just like title, my network card works well in mandriva 2006. but in windows 2000 server, it doesn't.

my network card is Marvell Yukon 88E8001/8003/8010 PCI Gigabit Ethernet Controller.

In mandriva 2006, during mandriva starts up, when it runs " bring up eth0 ......", the network card 's light begins to twinkle.

But in windows 2000 server, the network card 's light keeps off.

what can i do?

Thanks in advance.

This is more of a windows question than a linux question. My guess is that the driver is not installed or not installed properly in windows. In the device manager do you see the nic listed or do you see an unknown device listed? If it is seen as an unknown device I don't think Windows will try to initialize it therefore no lights.

I am sure it's a linux question, because i always surf the net in windows, just these days i begins to install linux.

And now because i can't not find the answer, so have to format my disk and install windows again. Now it is working well.

From the beginning, I install mandriva 2006 at first time, x-windows can't startup. Then I srart up windows, the same as above. The network card can't work. After I shut down the computer, and restart it, the network card works well again.

But this time, the mothod above isn't useful any more.

The lights on the NIC has nothing to do with software. They are just indicators if the cable is properly connected and there is 12 volt power that is looping from your NIC to a hub/switch, bridge, router, or another computer. I suggest checking the cable or replace it.

But with the same cable, before I install the mandriva 2006, or after I remove the linux harddisk section, the NIC works well.

Thanks anyway.

I will try once more.
