Angry My modem won't work!

I can't get my modem to work.

56K* V.92 Performance Pro Modem

It works fine in Windows, but not Mandrake. When I look at , "dev\modem", I can't find my modem. In fact, "dev\modem" doesn't exist. But, when I look at what's in "configuration\pci", (something like that) it see's my modem, brand name/model#, and everything. I got this modem just so I could use it with Linux, and I have to say that it's quite expensive for a dial up modem.
I know that I just have to move something somewhere, or something, but, I am brand new at Linux, and it's like learning another language. I've been messing around with this for about four days now, because I like to try to figure things out on my own, but... Can anyone help me please?

Welcome to the Linux Geek world!

I am trying to help you here, but furthermore i do need a little bit information about your modem.
If you don't know how to do it, just go to
http://www.linuxant.com/drivers/modemident.html
and download one of the software and just post the output. So, i would tell you what to do next.
If you don't know how to do it in linux. Just download the window version. Doesn't matter!

Good luck.

As per the USR website, this modem is has both Linux and Windows drivers. Perhaps you may need to install the drivers from the cdrom.

The drivers are supposed to be built in the kernal.

Oh, I got it going with the Mandrake Control Center, but I have to configure my modem every time I want to get on line. <shrugs>
