my modem is troubling a lot

I really need some help.I have recently installed Red Hat 7.2 on my PC and I am having trouble connecting to the internet. I have Diamond Multimedia's Supraexpress 56 k V90 internal modem.I have spent almost 1 week trying to correct the problem on my own but i have failed miserably .The modem works very well with Win 98 but doesnt with linux. On Linux, in KDE Control Center it shows my modem name correctly in the I/O address range e400-e407 but in the Hardware Browser linux does not show my modem (i donno why). When I try to connect to the net by KPPP dialer it shows the message "modem is busy" (earlier it at least mounted the modem now it doesnt even do that). I have tried to configure modem by trying to point it to /dev/modem instead of /dev/ttys1, but it doesnt work then. Also when I try to Autoconfigure the modem (through Internet configuration wizard), it does not even detect it.Kindly guide me what should I do now and solve this problem.
I would greatly appreciate If you could please help me out.
Thanks

Welcome to LQ, Digix.

Taking a look here it would appear very much that you are running a WinModem. They are so called because they are designed specifically for Windows. If you can identify your modem from the list, then take a look here to see if it has Linux support.

I normally advise people with PCI modems, however, that they should unburden themselves by removing it, selling or giving it away and purchasing an external SERIAL modem. I stress the term serial because a good many USB modems, which are still external, are actually also WinModems. The serial port, however, is not fast enough for undecoded data to flow through, so serial modems must be hardware based, and so will work with any OS you care to throw at them.
