My HP wireless mouse & keyboard aren't working
Ubuntu 22.x LTS
My computer is the HP EliteDesk 800 G1 sff.
My HP wireless mouse & keyboard aren't working. Funny thing, it only had 1 USB thing & instructions said to put it in the keyboard (it didn't even plug into anything, it just sits there in a perfect holster).
The instructions say to hold down the mouse for 3 seconds until the light blinks, which I did twice.
Is my computer too old to use this hardware ?
Much thanks for anyone that can help!
Addendum: I just ordered this, will that solve my problem: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Have either worked previously? Is this a new keyboard/mouse? Generally, when you purchase a wireless mouse the usb gadget which is about one half inch long, plugs into a usb port. It should come with the mouse purchase. I didn't have to configure mine as it was detected. Both my laptop and the wireless mouse are also HP so that should simplify things.I haven't used a wireless keyboard but I would think you would need a separate usb plug to use it but you might wait for someone more knowledgeable to respond.

What is the "it" you are referring to in the above sentence? Did the keyboard/mouse come together in a package?

You should have a keyboard, a mouse, & a USB dongle. The USB dongle plugs into your computer. To get the mouse to work, it often just takes a right click on the screen for it to start responding, the keyboard should just work. Both should have batteries in them.
What you ask, will this help, the answer is no, that is a USB wifi dongle...

It is this item I purchased: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B093KTJ7FH...roduct_details
It only came with one usb plug in/short usb stick. I'm thinking HP is assuming I have a new computer that has Bluetooth already - ?

It's weird. The instructions specificaly state to but the usb dongle in the keyboard. It only came with one usb dongle. I thought it should have had 2 usb dongles, but I think HP is assuming whoever purchases this has a new computer already with bluetooth in it - ?

Addendum: At 6am, in 15 minutes, Ima call Walmart when they open & see if they have a 2.4 ghz (as is on the hp box) usb dongle.
Does everyone think that will solve this problem.
Also, when I get the 2.4 ghz usb dongle, will I have to tell Ubuntu 22.x lts anything in terminal?
I use to go to Radio Shack. I miss Radio Shack as they closed the store in my area....

When you buy a combination keyboard & mouse, they both use the same USB dongle, which is usually stored in the mouse; there may be an on/off switch on yours.
The computer doesn't need bluetooth for these to work, the dongle & the keyboard/mouse are already 'paired'.

Problem solved. I took the USB dongle out of the keyboard and plugged it in the Desktop - even though HP'a spcific instructions, which was just 4 drawings with no words, their instructions clearly showed that the purchaser to put the usb dongle into the keyboard.
Marking as solved!
Thanks all!
