my computer hangs unable to use ubuntu10.04 desktop

hi there,
i am facing a strange situation. my computer hangs as soon as i boot into ubuntu 10.04 LTS GNOME. nothing works and i have to press the reset button.i don't face this issue with ubuntu 8.04 LTS. my comp works fine with linux mint 7 GNOME but it hangs when i try install mint 8. i have tried to work with windows xp. things seem to be alright. but not with latest ubuntu and its variations it just HANGS....

I am on a mercury 945 series motherboard and i have 2 gb RAM. can anyone gimme some ideas to sort this one out

When you boot up, go into the grub boot menu and select Recovery Mode, it will boot you to a terminal. Then follow the instructions in that thread:

Spell out your words. And re-opening a thread that's a YEAR OLD, isn't a good thing...especially since in your OTHER thread you say you're using Fedora, and this is for Ubuntu.
