My box cannot boot without a monitor connected!

Hello,

I've got a problem on a debian box with a p3b-f Motherboard. I installed, partitionned and updated normally, but when I placed the box in a spare room, with no monitor, the box refused to boot. I don't even got the first "beep", and if I connect a monitor after that the screen is blank. If I reset, the screen stills blank. I have to cycle the power to retrieve a screen and a normal boot. The bios then tells me that the machine hanged becasuse a wrong CPU speed, I don't know if this message is accurate.

the GC is an AGP one, maxi gamer with 16 MB. nothing special aout it.

Any Idea ? (booting with a monitor and then unplugging it isn't an option. the bios is up to date, halt on no error is set, power management was full on or full off...)

I've tried on another exact same machine, the problem persists. This problem isn't directly dependant on the kernel, since I cannot even reach grub.

You got this problem only when you use Debian or any OS?
Because you cannot boot so I think the problem come from the hardware not linux.

monitor dummy

To make your computer think it has a monitor attached look at

http://tvtool.info/go.htm?http://tvt...sh/dummy_e.htm

A computer that I use as a firewall requires a monitor to be attached. Which is
why I went looking for the same thing you are.

Using Google, I think I used the search phrase <vga monitor dummy>

Thanks, that's exactly what I needed, well, I think. I'll try with another GC, but if everything else fails, I will solder this myself. Thanks again for the link!

I've replaced the GC with a different model, now the box is booting correctly, with only the power cord connected.
