MX310 Mouse doesn't work -
Hello all! This is my first post here on LQ.
I have just recently delved into the world of Linux, specifically Slackware (ver 10.2). I just installed it on my laptop (Inspiron 8600) and the only problem I've had so far that I can't fix is my Logitech MX 310 -- it does not work. I've tried numerous changes in X11's config file here on these forums, and tried working it out with a friend to no avail. The only time the mouse showed any type of "working" or "input" is when I tried cat /dev/input/mouse0 or /mice.
Any help would be appreciated on this matter. I'm not one for using a touch-pad; and I'm sure my experiences with X will be that much more enjoyable if I had a real mouse.
Thanks!

so what type of mouse is this logitec?
usb? wireless?
you can use both a touch pad and a normal mouse and the same time you know....
you probably need to create two mouse entries in /etc/X11/xorg.conf

I will try that later today when I have time and post results.
EDIT: I have tried the above, changing the protocol to auto; and the device as /dev/input/psaux without any success.

no problem - enjoy slackware.
note that you can have two mouse devices in your xorg.conf
you just need a seperate section for each. so you can have both a touch pad and a usb mouse.
search google for "slackware wheel mouse" if you want to get the scroll wheel working.... or LQ of course.....

I think I got the mouse working, at the time I didn't have internet to test the extra forward / backward buttons. I know the mousewheel works though.
I guess I'll just add another entry for the touchpad.
With the "pkgtool" ; what is that actually editing/ modifing to get the mouse to work in the first place?
