Mustek 6000P Scanner

It seems that my parallel port scaner is supported by Linux (depending on which site you look at!!) but I am having problems with YaST 2 in SuSE 8.0. I am offered the options of choosing a SCSI scanner or a USB one - but not an option for parallel ports. Is there a way of enabling this option?
Thanks

I checked SuSE's site to see if your scanner was supported and I couldn't find it listed. You might have use the program SANE. This is their web site: http://www.mostang.com/sane/. This is the page you'll probably end up at: http://www.penguin-breeder.org/?page=mustek_pp.

I hope this helps.

Talking Same problem in other distro

Hi,

I installed the last RPM for Mandrake which should make it work... but ;(
with...
Code:
sane-find-scanner -p -v
... I get...
Quote:
searching for Mustek parallel port scanners:
checking parport0... open ok
found possible Mustek parallel port scanner at "parport0"
checking parport0 (SCSI emulation)... failed to open (Device busy)

# Your Mustek parallel port scanner was detected. It may or
# may not be supported by SANE. Please read the sane-mustek_pp
# man-page for setup instructions.

# Most Scanners connected to the parallel port or other proprietary ports
# can't be detected by this program.
done
... and with...
Code:
SANE_DEBUG_MUSTEK_PP=1 scanimage -L
... I get...
Quote:
[sanei_debug] Setting debug level of mustek_pp to 1.

No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different,
check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the
sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation
which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages).
With the
Code:
scannerdrake --testing
I get the message that it didn't found any scanner attached and when I select manualy the scanner it gives me a message saying that this scanner is not available to my Mandrake version

Any help is welcomed.

Lopo

Files SANE related in my PC:
  • libsane1 1.0.13-6mdk
  • libsane1-devel 1.0.13-6mdk
  • libsane-hpoj1 0.91-4mdk
  • sane-backends 1.0.15-2mdk
  • sane-frontends 1.0.11-1mdk
  • xsane 0.92-2mdk
  • xsane-gimp 0.92-2mdk
It seems that I may have a mess here

Meanwhile i noticed a file named mustek_pp_ccd.conf.rpmsave in /etc/sane.d directory after installing the new sane-backends 1.0.15-2mdk and now it already recognizes the scanner but it doesn't comunicate yet.

Hints, please

Lopo
