Multiple sound devices -- configured in the wrong order

Hi
This is a peculiar issue. I have a standard via82xx driver based sound card that works rather well with linux distros -- that is until I plugged in the Quickcam 4000 webcam which also has its own mic.

The problem is that during startup the via82xx card is the second device to be identified for sound. Due to this, I don't get any sound since the system seems to pick the first device (the webcam) for both operations.

My question is: Is there a way I can force the system to use the via card? Is there any alsaconf / alsactl command to do this? Any modprobe.conf modifications?

Thanks for all replies.

maybe "modinfo <wcam-mod>" will give you an option to use a specific sound device. try, but i don't think so.

at last: you maybe can hardcode it in the source.

sl mritch.

Lightbulb RE: Multiple sound devices - configured in wrong order

Hi,
There might occur a conflict between two "audio" cards built into your PC. An approach to solve this matter is to assign different card numbers at modprobe.conf. I had the same nature of the problem and I changed the soundcard index from 0 to 1 to get the sound back.

I still cannot serve with an URL yet since I think this is only my 2nd posting ;-) If you'd like to open my related docu page, go to Google and type "Audio Setup infocopter". I'd expect the wanted page will be on the top.

Enjoy.
