multiple hardware issues, need ideas!
 

Howdy all,
I have a custom bootable linux cd (running the 2.6.6 kernel) which I have used in the following machines without any troubles:

k6-2 400, sis chipset, onboard realtek network, geforce2 video
intel p2-266 celeron, intel chipset, intel network, geforce2 video
p1.7 celeron, sis chipset, onboard realtek network, geforce2 video

I have all the common drivers in the kernel, and haven't needed to change the kernel at all. However I have just purchased the following:

soltek qbic 2000
p1.7 celeron (from the old system)
256mb DDR (from the old system)
intel 845 chipset (with ich4)
onboard realtek network
geforce2 video (from the old system)

and have the following issues:

* videos through mplayer off an internal harddrive play at about 0.5 fps - this is using vesa framebuffer with directfb-cvs. no previous machine has had this problem.
* network card is initialized but does not transmit (or receive?). I have tried 3 different cards with different chipsets that are all known to work. They all get detected and assigned ip's, just refuse to communicate. Cable is fine, Hub is fine, Client machines are fine, all lights are on correctly. Pings don't even go through, yet lights all flick.
* usb detects devices, but refuses to talk to them - specifically a usb isdn modem. This same modem worked perfectly on the previous 2 machines.


I have also tried many different bootable linux cd's which none throw obvious errors on the screen. The only problems I can think of are timing issues, or irq issues. If anyone has any ideas or has come across this problem before, please post!

Incase anyone has the same problem, I just found the solution. It was with the smp code in the kernel. I have an ordinary cpu in a hyper-threading board which maybe it's a bug somewhere but it must have been getting itself confused. Cheerio!
