MTP-DETECT command not found

I have a Samsung MP3 player that was given to me. It uses MTP format and after a little searching I found Amarok will support this device. All I have to do is install libmtp and gnomad. Okay I have libmtp3 and gnomad2 installed on a PcLinuxOS box, I type mtp-detect to see if it finds my mp3 player and I get, command not found. Anyone have a solution? I figure once I get that to work Amarok will be able to find my MP3 player.

Check if /usr/bin and /usr/local/bin are in your PATH variable.

Yes. I do a search for the command and cannot find it?

It doesn't look like the installation of libmtp was successful.
