MSI K7D (Green) and IDE
Hiyas dudes,
I am experiencing some problems with my system, they happen when I have the IDE drives running at copying across each other and burning CD-ROMs especially.
Here's my spec:
MSI K7D (Green Edition)
2 x 1800+
2 x Maxtor D740X 7,200RPM
Intel Pro (eepro100) NIC
G550 (Matrox GFX)
Audigy (emu10k1)
The problems are experienced when Im running something like this command (/home is /dev/hdb1 and /usr/ is on /dev/hda3)
cp -R /usr/local/bin/apache /home/shak/backup/
The whole machine goes really slow and doesnt respond well, the machine may even lock up.
I found this page, a log from the kernel mailing list:
Now, that would suggest whats wrong with my machine, I would like to see if anyone else running the same board is having the same problem?
Thanks
Shak
//if anyone is wondering why the title says "green" it is because there were 2 releases, one with a green PCB and one with a red.

What does /sbin/lspci have to say about the IDE bridge? It may not be supported well, or at least not in the kernel you're running. That's usually the culprit with board issues that make the HD hack.
Cheers,

Hi again finegan,
Ill have a look when I get home from college tonight, I believe that this could be an issue, yet with the board being ~6months old I would have thought that the latest (maybe 2.5.x) would support the IDE controller. Ill have a google for it.

It seems to say in the dmesg that it isnt supported as it switches to generic IDE? This could be the problem?
