MS USB Optical Mouse Wheel NA

hey i searched the forum for this but found no helpful posts so i'll ask...

this mouse has worked on all linux system i have used by me adding some lines to XF86Config but now i got a new laptop and got slackware 9.1 on it and since it has no ps/2 ports and only USB2 ports i disconnect the little ps/2 converter from the mouse which is really a usb mouse and use it but now the lines i add to XF86Config don't work, the mouse wheel can be clicked so it seems as if it's emulating 3 buttons or something but not the 4th and 5th that will scroll up and down...
i'll post my current XF86Config file part with the mouse input device:

Identifier "Mouse1"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Buttons" "5"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
