Mplayer doesn't see my DVD

Is a DVD under /mnt or /dev?
I'v finally got Mplayer working and now I tried to play a DVD
but I get this error message.
Couldn't open DVD device: /dev/dvd

which leads me to believe that DVDplayers are under /dev/dvd(I looked for it but it ain't there.)
So that leads me to believe that I need to install/mount my DVD player

How is do I go about doing this?

under root user link your dvddrive device to /dev/dvd

for exemple :

ln -s /dev/hdc /dev/dvd

the other solution is to look in the mplayer man for an option to modify defaut device search for --device or somethinf like that. (to read dvd under mplayer dont foret to use the -dvd n switch where n == 1 or 2 or 3 etc..

I don't even think my DVD is installed, I know I see it when Redhat boots misubitshi DVD soemthing. I'll give these ideas a shot but is there a "Device Manager"? or soemthing to where I can see if it is installed?
