Mousepad pointer freezes during suspend

I am running the gnome desktop, fedora 7 on a Gateway TA1 Tablet Notebook. The mouse I use is the built-in mousepad. Occasionally, when I attempt to resume after the notebook has been in suspend, the mouse pointer is frozen. All windows continue to work fine, and I can use keyboard shortcuts to do anything I need to, but I do not know how to restart the mouse. I end up rebooting every time this happens.

So,

1) How to prevent the mouse from freezing while in suspend?
2) How to restart the mouse when it is frozen (can this be done without rebooting?)

This is a new installation, only updates and a couple of installs have been put in place.

[root@localhost proc]# uname -r
2.6.23.8-34.fc7

dmesg shows no sign of a problem.

There is something interesting about the /dev listing when this occurs. The mouse1 entry is missing when the pointer freezes. This is also the case in the sys input file system.

[root@localhost proc]# ls -l /dev/input

Ctrl-Alt-F#

I don't know what's causing the mouse to freeze, but you certainly shouldn't have to reboot. Do you know how to access your other (non-X) ttys? Press Ctrl-Alt-F1 to get to the first tty, Ctrl-Alt-F2 for the the second, etc. You can then log in through the command line, and start poking around. If necessary, you can kill X. You might also try running /etc/init.d/gpm to find out whether the mouse works without X.

Good luck.
