Mouse Under X-Windows?

I successfully configured my laptop's touchpad under X-Windows as /dev/ps2aux, but when I plug in a USB mouse, it is not autodetected, and does not work, though the mouse does receive power (in Windows, the mouse does not get power to it until the OS has installed the drivers for it, though I know we are not talking about Windows ).

My question is: is it possible to be able to switch from the touchpad to the USB mouse during an X-Windows session? And what device would I find a USB mouse under? /dev/____?

Thanks for any help,
John

Right on! That did the trick, though I didn't really make any changes to my config. All of those settings were already there. The trick, in the end, was that I needed to plug the mouse in, and then restart the X server. After that, it correctly identified it and the USB mouse worked, even if I unplugged it and plugged it back in.

If I don't have it plugged in when the X server starts up, then it won't work at all until I plug it in and restart X . Very strange, but The solution works for me
