Mouse Scrolling freezes on 2 boxes - mouse brands don't matter, changing kernel is a temporary fix

This issue has carried over from one box to a new one. (Intel to AMD to begin with)

This new box is using Manjaro 18.1, Cinnamon 4.4.5; the kernel is 5.4.6-2-MANJARO

The scroll wheel will stick, and then zap you way down/up the page.

Happens with 4 different mouse makes, both wireless and wired.

Temporary fix is to change kernels.

I've worked back to 4.19 and back up. Every change, every thing is good for a couple of days or so.

Does not seem to be affected by updates or lack of updates.

Any ideas?
What other info should I post?
It's getting bothersome.

Have you been using Manjaro the whole time? (I see a lot of mouse-related problems on Manjaro forums with a quick search.. so just asking..)

What mouse is it? The same external mouse or builtin.. or both?

Only since I switched to Manjaro Cinnamon...that I recall (I seem to have a thing for cinnamon - don't give me a "cloves" desktop, ok?)
Happens with 2 Logitech (1 wired, 1 WiFi), an old Dell mouse, a new Dell mouse, and a Belkin

I've changed kernels up and down the list with no permanent fix.

Not found anything helpful on the WildWestWeb that has been helpful.

Interesting..

Does it happen after a cold boot or you had it suspended at some point?

Cold Boot?

"Vat iz zis 'kold boot'?" (Old movie trope....ok?)

You mean turn it off and leave it off for a while? Ulp.

Would I have to unplug?

Ha ha ha

(Sorry, these boxes are only off when they're problematic. Otherwise, we have 2 boxes for 6 people in the house - they all prefer the desktops to laptops)

No, had more to do with references online to there being mouse problems in Manjaro after coming out of suspense.

I would honestly suggest trying to run something that offers an LTS/stable with Cinnamon other than Manjaro.. it's still rather bleeding edge and there are quite a few people out there with similar issues that did not get resolved or they never came back to state that they were.. Especially in a family environment I would not recommend rolling/testing distributions.. but that's just my "two cents".

Thank you.
The "family environment" does make rolling distros interesting, as you say.
That's what we like. But we're not yet ready for Arch Cinnamon. Soon.

And btw, it's 8:32 pm my time and just went from kernel 5.6 down to the recommended LTS 4.14.

Let's see how that works. Will shutdown and go for a beer before restarting, too.

Well, thought I'd suggest it anyway.. I installed Manjaro on my wife's laptop and she actually stopped using it all together, insisting I take that "Windows or whatever" off her *&^% laptop..

To each their own lol

This may help you:

Thanks.
It's stuff like this that keeps Linux interesting.
I look at Linux like an old 50s car - loaded under the hood, no restrictions, and it drives like I can get it to.

That's why I use Slackware... I just like getting mine fine tuned and letting it stay that way for a while haha

My apologies:

In my senescence I assumed everyone would immediately recognize my remark "Would I have to unplug" as a reference to Larry Niven's Wireheads in the "Known Space" sci-fi stories.

(I think I might have to emphasize "senescence" here.)
