Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Mouse reset in X/KDE

Is it possible to reset the mouse in X (KDE)?
Sometimes when I boot, the mouse doesn't work i.e. the pointer doesn't move when I move the mouse.
In addition, right now the mouse wheel isn't working although I selected the correct driver, and XF86config contains zaxismapping "4 5"
So I'd need some tool to redetect or reinitialize the mouse or something like that.
Can anyone help me with this?
